Dear Carolyn,
Who’s a mentor who’s shaped the leader you are today? For me, two come to mind instantly—and they happen to be partners in both life and business.
Meet Wayne and Erin Holm.
Wayne was one of the first people I called when, at 26, I became the first female Athletic Director of a private country club. He's the kind of mentor who leaves you reflecting, inspired, and striving to grow—no matter how short the conversation. His quiet wisdom, curiosity, and humility have left a lasting mark on my leadership journey.
Wayne has been living with Parkinson’s disease since 2014, and although at times the disease can cause speech and voice impairment, he continues to mentor and share his experience as a leader in business.
Erin, in her own calm and grounded way, has been just as impactful. She’s the mentor who, when you say “I have an idea,” responds with, “How can I help—and who can I introduce you to?” She’s been a longtime champion of Better Your Best, and if you’re a former client, chances are you’ve received one of her incredible cookbooks.
At BYB, we believe that to do your best work, you have to be your best. And that starts with how you fuel yourself. Erin’s approach to food is as inspiring as it is practical—her recipes are simple, nourishing, and proof that healthy eating doesn’t have to be hard.
From spending time on ski hills to tennis courts and golf courses, every interaction with Wayne and Erin leaves you wanting more time, more stories, and more learning.
🎧 I had the absolute joy of sitting down with both Wayne and Erin on the podcast in an episode titled: “Humility in Action: Leading with Love, Learning, and Legacy.” We discuss ongoing learning, high-performance leadership concepts, and what it means to lead a life of legacy.
👉 Tune in to their story, and let us know what you think!
