Hi Carolyn,

What does the best version of your business look like?

How often do you make time to think about your definition of best business, best teams, and best leadership?

I've spent more than 15 years doing just that with leaders in dozens of businesses, and I've collected a list of what I consider to be the non-negotiable elements of a "best business." I call them Best Indicators and when they are present, I watch companies achieve the successes they've been dreaming about!

  • A strategic plan that is widely known and lived by all. Tip: keep it in a shared, common folder!
  • A strategic rhythm for planning, doing, and reviewing at the organizational, departmental, and project levels. Tip: revisit this rhythm annually!
  • Role clarity for every employee. Tip: build personal plans with each person on the team! This will allow them to prioritize and manage their time effectively.
  • A commitment to vulnerability and trust. Great teams call out complacency, align vs agree and engage in courageous conversations. Tip: work with a coach to grow your own commitment to vulnerability and trust-building.
  • Leaders who can lead from anywhere regardless of their title.
  • Accountability! People across the organization, at all levels, do what they say they will do, demonstrate a growth mindset, are proactive versus reactive, and aren't afraid to ask for help.
  • An organization that NEVER STOPS LEARNING! Tip: Share what you learn each week through your internal messaging platforms!

I'd encourage you to take a moment to consider what makes your business the best! And for our next-level performers, take another minute to reply to this newsletter to let us know what we missed!

How safe do your employees feel about speaking up? Do you have a proven process in place to deal with misconduct? Small companies commonly think "That will never happen here." Misconduct, fraud, and harassment are uncomfortable to talk about. They do happen so ensure your business is prepared. Equip your leaders and employees to rise to this challenging moment by setting the foundation for a speak-up culture.

Join us as we learn from Whistlerblower Security founder Shannon Walker to hear about the tools and considerations required of cultivating a speak up culture in your organization.
