“I never pause to reflect on my achievements.” This is a common sentiment expressed by BYB clients. It is also part of the reason why I developed the concept of champagne goals and champagne moments. In our quest to drive forward, raise the bar higher, make more money, have more personal time, climb the ladder, or grow our businesses we rarely take the time to pause and acknowledge what we have accomplished, what we have overcome, and who has helped us along the way.
The idea of champagne goals is that you look to the future and see yourself achieving both big and small accomplishments. You design what you envision that moment to look like. Champagne moments are when you actually achieve your desired goal. If someone was there with you they could take a picture of this personal achievement.
Champagne moments don’t always have to be Gold Medal experiences but can be a simple moment such as taking the time to pick your child up from school and taking them for lunch. Quite often these small moments require a bit more planning then one would expect to make them happen.
The theme for November has been Reflection. Many of you have already spent some time with me reviewing your businesses in 2012. If you haven’t already done a review of 2012, take a moment now to answer these questions for your business, personal life, or career.
1. What are three major successes/champagne moments you have experienced in 2012?
2. What are three major challenges?
3. What do you need to follow up on immediately?
4. What do you want to build on in 2013?
5. If time and resources weren’t a concern what would be different one year from now?
If we haven’t already discussed these questions I encourage you to take 5 minutes to write down your answers and e-mail them to me so we can discuss them on your next coaching call. This reflection should be the catalyst for some big dreaming and planning for 2013. The theme that follows November’s Reflection is December’s Champagne Planning!!
Have fun and speak soon! A bientot!!
BYB November Challenge:
I challenge you to complete the above exercise and send me your review notes or tweet about your champagne moments using the hash tag “#champagnemoment”
Tweet That!
Twitter is a great way for you to broaden your community and follow discussions from people and media sources you are interested in. Politicians, celebrities, friends, the BBC, the Economist etc. are examples of great topics or discussions to follow. The beauty of twitter is one does not have to tweet, one can simply follow and enjoy learning what is trending. The “#” symbol is used before words for topics that are trending locally and internationally. For example #strategicplanning, #champagnemoment, #.
